Spring into Joy: Making Time for the Things You Love

As the world around us blooms with the full swing of spring and summer is just around the corner, it’s a perfect reminder to reconnect with the things that bring us joy. Life can easily become consumed by obligations, responsibilities, and daily stressors, leaving little room for the activities and passions that truly make us feel alive. This season, make a conscious effort to prioritize joy and create space for the things that nourish your soul. Here’s how:

Identify What Brings You Joy

Take a moment to reflect on the activities that are not just momentary pleasures but genuinely foster a sense of wellbeing, delight or maybe purpose. Is it reading, painting, gardening, hiking, or playing music? Sometimes, in the rush of daily life, we forget the things that once brought us joy. Reconnect with those passions and give yourself permission to engage in them without guilt.

Schedule Time for Yourself

Just as you would schedule an important meeting or appointment, carve out time in your calendar for the things you value and cherish. Treat this time as non-negotiable. Even setting aside 15–30 minutes a day to do something that brings you joy can have a significant impact on your mental and emotional well-being.

Let Go of Guilt

Many people feel guilty for taking time for themselves, but self-care and joy are necessary. Compassion is the activation of care. When we lose connection with what and why we care, we may serve but from an empty cup. Engaging in activities that align you with the sense of your core self, replenishes your energy, reduces stress, and improves overall well-being, which in turn allows you to show up better for others.

Minimize Distractions

In a world full of notifications, emails, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to get sidetracked. Be intentional about creating a distraction-free zone when engaging in your favorite activities. Put your phone on silent, step away from work, and fully immerse yourself in the moment even if it’s only 1-2 minutes to give yourself permission to reset.

Explore Something New

Spring is a season of renewal, making it a great time to try new activities that spark joy. Is there a hobby you've always wanted to try? A new place you’ve wanted to explore? Give yourself the opportunity to experiment and discover new sources of happiness. Remember it is an act of growth not a task demanding perfection.

Share Joy with Others

Happiness multiplies when shared. Invite friends or loved ones to join you in activities you enjoy. Whether it’s a nature walk, a creative project, or a shared meal, creating joyful experiences with others strengthens relationships and enhances your sense of connection.

Make Joy a Habit

Prioritizing joy isn’t just a seasonal practice—it’s a mindset and it takes intention. Make it a habit to regularly check in with yourself and ask: *Am I making time for the things that bring me peace and delight?* By incorporating joy into your routine, you cultivate a life that feels more fulfilling and balanced.

Embrace the Joy of the Season

Spring is a beautiful reminder to embrace life fully. As nature blooms and the days grow brighter, take this as an opportunity to infuse more joy into your life. Give yourself permission to slow down, do what you love, and truly savor the moments that bring you happiness.
